The Honorable Leslie Ellison courageously serves the citizens of Algiers, Faubourg Marigny, Bywater and the French Quarter on the Orleans Parish School Board, District 4. Leslie Ellison was first elected to the Orleans Parish School Board on November 6, 2012, and has held numerous leadership positions since assuming office. She currently serves as Vice President of OPSB, and is a member of the board’s Legal, Budget and Finance and Property committees.
As a stateswoman and public servant, Leslie Ellison’s vision, integrity and leadership focus on putting children and education first. Her commitment has led to positive changes in school and board governance, parental engagement, school construction, accountability and fiscal oversight.
In the professional arena, Leslie Ellison has a strong track record of more than 25 years of experience in education advocacy, government, and public service at the local, state, national and international levels. An entrepreneur, Leslie Ellison is founder and CEO of the Ellison Group, LLC. She also serves as administrator at Gideon Christian Fellowship International. In prior service in the public sector, she served as Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the City of New Orleans and worked as an administrator for the City of New Orleans’ City Attorney’s Office.
In 2016, Leslie Ellison was elected to serve on the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee and the Democratic State Central Committee. She is regularly sought out by leaders from education and other spheres of influence for her understanding of education and community engagement.
At the community level, Leslie Ellison is active in various civic organizations. She is a founding member of the Oliver Perry Walker Alumni Association, President of the Tunisburg Square/McCledonville Homeowners Neighborhood Civic Association, and a member of Delgado Community College—West Bank Campus, Kiwanis of Algiers Morning Edition, Women Standing UP, Louisiana School Boards Association, and other organizations.
Leslie Ellison obtained a degree in business administration from Southern University at New Orleans. A graduate of New Orleans public schools, she attended Paul B. Habans Elementary, Edna Karr and Oliver Perry Walker Senior High School, respectively. Leslie Ellison is a lifelong resident of the Tunisburg/McClendonville community in Algiers, Louisiana. She is the first Black and the first female elected official to arise from this historic community.
